Beschrijving

Larache has cemeteries for the three religious communities who coexisted here: Muslim, Jewish and Christian. This reflects the town's open attitude towards Europe and the peaceful co-existence between the three religions. These are the oldest cemeteries in the town and contain the tomb of the Belgian consul Emmanuel Clarembaux, killed in Larache in the late 19th century. At the time, the town was an important port and numerous countries had diplomatic presence there. The Christian cemetery is located on a hill overlooking the ocean. The majority of the graves are whitewashed and you can no longer read the names or dates of the individuals buried there. To gain access you must knock on the door of the caretaker which is located along the external wall of the cemetery. The cemetery is located at these coordinates: 35.17312, -6.15627
